Why bother social media anymore?

I am done with social media in general.

Facebook is only usable with the genius browser plugin FBP. It is just my birthday calendar for my contacts I don’t maintain a “real” record in my phone or anywhere else.

Twitter/X always only was my news feed. If you don’t like the political bias here just do not read the comments and block accounts you don’t like - so easy, but do not complain about them. I also only read the posts of accounts I am following, ignoring everything else. Yes, this is still possible.

Everyone is chaning to Bluesky these days. I did, too. Mastodon was also an option but I think this is nerd stuff. I don’t see any difference to X, especially since Bluesky accounts grew to about 25 mil during the past weeks. I use the same rules here as I do for X.

LinkedIn is the network I am offended by the most. I recently went through ALL the notification settings to stop the email spam flood from this “network” and I still get them. Thanks Microsoft. Actually I am only here to stay in touch with everyone NOT being on Xing, but I really hate this “Facebook for business clowns”.

Xing is the dinosaur in my accounts and I really don’t know why I am still here. Many people left this network during the past years. Since I am not a paying user, I really don’t care about it. Notifications are disabled completely. Sorry if I am forgetting your birthday.

I exclude Instagram here since this is NOT social media, it is 100% commercials like we had on TV in the “good old TV days” (I am not using TV for over a decade now).

Resume: social media is dead. If you want to stay in touch with people, get their phone numbers and meet & talk live or write using messenger services of your choice.

Patrick, I guess I have to fire my developer/admin of the blog since he didn't change the placeholder

I follow planetlotus.org and collaborationtoday.info only. Saves me a lot of time. Lately Discord has begun consuming time. Q: why has placeholder for 'Your website' field still http as placeholder and not https?
